Brushing Tips

In between your dental appointments, it is extremely important to brush your teeth at least two times a day! However, how long you spend brushing your teeth is just as important as how often you do it.

It is very important you choose the right type of toothbrush for the job.  Remember to consider the size of your mouth, or your child’s mouth when you are picking a toothbrush. If the brush is too big it makes it difficult to clean hard to reach places.

The second thing to consider is the stiffness of the bristles. If the bristles are too stiff they can aggravate the gums, which is way we recommend a soft-bristle brush.  Lastly, it is important to seek a toothbrush that is comfortable in your hand. A wider handle generally gives you better control on your toothbrush.

Electric or manual brush? That is a personal preference.  They both do a good as a job if used properly. Make sure to ask or read the directions before using an electric toothbrush as they are not used in the same way as a regular toothbrush.

How long you spend brushing your teeth is as critical as how often you brush your teeth!
