Lumineers
Lumineers are the most esthetic and conservative means of creating a more pleasing and beautiful smile. They require a minimal amount of tooth reduction and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown or a veneer. Lumineers allow us to alter tooth position, shape, size and color. They are not the only alternative for all esthetic abnormalities but are truly a remarkable restoration when they are the treatment of choice.
Why is It Needed?
Often, patients feel that the look of their smile can be improved. Lumineers offer a non-invasive option to help fix unwanted imperfections. They can help with teeth are stained, chipped, worn down, too far apart, irregularly shaped, cracked, unwanted gaps or discoloration. Now with Lumineers, patients can have partial reconstruction procedure that can give them the smile they are looking for.
What Does It Consist Of?
Dental lumineers are wafer-thin shells (about 0.2 millimetres thick). They are applied to the front of the teeth that are in need of a partial reconstruction, usually for aesthetic reasons. Custom-made, the translucent materials are stain resistant and long lasting.
How is It Carried Out?
On the first visit, your dentist will take a precise impression of your teeth and your bite. Together, you and your dentist will choose a shade of white that is right for you. After your first visit, your dentist will send the impression to the lab for your custom Lumineers to be made. There are no temporaries applied to your teeth between your appointments, which are normally scheduled 3 weeks apart. During your second visit, your Lumineers are painlessly applied without any freezing or drilling of tooth structure. By the time you leave your second appointment your lumineers have been applied, and you are ready to show off your new beautiful smile! We do require one more short appointment, one or two days after the application, to make sure floss passes appropriately through the areas.
